چکیده

We study the solutions to the wave equation in a two-dimensional tube of unit width comprised of two straight regions connected by a region of constant curvature. We introduce a numerical method which permits high accuracy at high curvature. We determine the bound state energies as well as the transmission and reflection matrices, T and R and focus on the nature of the resonances which occur in the vicinity of channel thresholds. We explore the dependence of these solutions on the curvature of the tube and angle of the bend and discuss several limiting cases where our numerical results confirm analytic predictions. †Present address: Department of Physics, 366 LeConte Hall, University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley, CA 94720 ∗This work is supported in part by funds provided by the U.S. Department of Energy (D.O.E.) under cooperative agreement #DF-FC02-94ER40818 and #DE-FG02-92ER40702 and in part by funds provided by the National Science Foundation under grant # PHY 92-18167

Conductance in quantum wires by three quantum dots arrays

A noninteracting quantum-dot arrays side coupled to a quantum wire is studied. Transport through the quantum wire is investigated by using a noninteracting Anderson tunneling Hamiltonian. The conductance at zero temperature develops an oscillating band with resonances and antiresonances due to constructive and destructive interference in the ballistic channel, respectively. Moreover, we have fo...

Bound states in waveguides and bent quantum wires. I. Applications to waveguide systems

It has been shown that in quantum wires which contain bends there will be one or more bound states for electrons placed in such systems. Bound states have been observed in quantum wires, but detailed mapping of such states is difficult. However, there is a one-to-one correspondence between wave functions of free electrons in two-dimensional ~2D! systems, and electric fields of TE modes in recta...

Understanding quantum wires with circular bends

Lent’ and also 301s and Macucci* have carried out numerical calculations for transmission and bound states of a quantum wire with a circular bend. We shall show here that their results can be understood in detail, and very simply,. in the approximation introduced by Jensen and Koppe3 that the width of the wire is small compared to its radius of curvature. As we shall see, the results are excell...

DRM-MD approach for bound electron states in semiconductor nano-wires

Using the boundary element dual reciprocity method-multi domain (DRM-MD), bound electron states and the corresponding wave functions in semiconductor quantum wires embedded in a matrix were considered. The single circular and rectangular as well as the two near circular quantum wires were analysed. In the case of two coupled quantum wires, the dependence of the resulting wave function and eigen...
